Audio stops playing when the app is in background which makes it pretty much useless Everything worked fine before this upgrade

Cant play audio unless youre in the app, which sucks. App was a lot better when you could listen to/control the audio while on lock screen.

I can no longer listen to this because background audio no longer continues when screen shuts off or when I change apps. Please restore background audio.

Continue to love the content, but the new version stops audio as soon as the app is no longer "front screen", which did not happen in prior versions. I would imagine that the "listen and drive" use case is very common, and most people probably have something else on the screen (e.g., maps or Waze). I know I do. PLEASE FIX!!!

With this update, the audio shuts down as soon as the app is closed or if the screen turned off. This is very inconvenient, please fix asap.

Newest update will no longer play in the background or if the screen locks. I can no longer listen to the economist as I drive or work without draining my battery, or at all as I exercise. Very disappointing, please fix.

Have to agree with the other reviewers. Audio doesnt work in background and its a serious issue. Good app when it works.

Im tired of new updates breaking this app. This time audio function is broken and stops playing when leaving the app. Some of the least competent app developers are hired by Economist to break something with every update. Sigh.

Fix the fact that the audio does not play in the background, or I will not be renewing...

The audio does not play when the app is running in the background. This is an irritating fix that renders the audio useless

Latest update cause application to stop playing audio anytime iPhone goes in standby. The makes the feature useless as one has to keep opening the app every x seconds to keep the audio going. This is a deal breaker for me who used to listen to the magazine while driving to work. I will not renew by subscription if this does not get resolved.

I find the audio edition indispensable. This version of the app dispenses with it. It no longer will play in the background. An urgent fix, please!

Great magazine, but oh what a horrible app. The audio download is clunky, a paint to navigate ... but The Economist has just surpassed themselves - todays app update results in the audio playing only when the app is open (not in the background!) and the screen lit .... wow! And, this app update is deemed to have bug-fixes...wow again! Evidently, testing the app update is NOT part of the process.

The new version doesnt work with audio. Its shuts of as soon as the lock screen turns on or you open another app. I am paying good money for this feature. Please fix ASAP.

Thank you for the quick fix for the background audio issue...the app is great and convenient...the content of course is simply the best in the world
